Kimberley Atkins Photography: One Billion Rising

On the 14th of February a world wide event named One Billion Rising took place. In a uprise against violence towards women, women were encouraged to come dance in public to make a stand.

I attended the event in Nottingham city centre and Nottingham Women's Centre and photographed the uprising.

A number of women stood and sang or read poetry and told the crown why they were rising. It was an incredibly moving event and I was really glad that I went and got involved.

I am relatively pleased with my pictures. I still much prefer to be in more control over the situation that I am capturing, and I like to have more time to get all the aspects right. However it has defiantly taught me how to think in my feet more.
